Course Overview

SCIM’s Premium digital production course is presented in partnership with Ableton, The world’s leading DAW for electronic music production. In this flagship 6 month program, you will learn every facet of music composition, Production, editing, recording, sound design, arrangement, and post-production. As the first Ableton-certified educational offering on the African continent, this course is taught exclusively by Ableton-certified trainers and is aimed at the aspiring EMP artist of the future.

Key Outcomes

On completion of the Digital Music production with Ableton course, graduates will have the necessary knowledge and practical skills required to:

  • Use basic and advanced music composition techniques to compose any style of music.
  • Developed knowledge and understanding of the underlying principles and concepts related to drum programming, groove & timing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of music theory and fundamental ability to play scales, chords, riffs, and phrases.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Ableton program functionality, including warping, editing, recording, and processing audio and generating and editing MIDI.
  • Apply sound design techniques to design a wide array of original sounds for all styles of music.
  • Have a world class understanding of synthesis from the ground up, including Oscillators, envelopes, VCAs, LFOs, Sequencers, and Modulation.
  • Understand audio engineering fundamentals such gain structure, dynamics, mixing, mastering and other aspects of post production.

What is the duration of the course?
The Digital music production with Ableton course is 6 months long.
Are there minimum requirements?
No previous qualifications are required but as the course in relatively intensive, we recommend a general matric learning level for applicants. Our content was assessed at NQF5 by SAQA.

All our courses are remotely taken online.
How often do i attend class?
For all part time and remote learning courses, a minimum of 4 hours per week is required . You can complete the course work in your own time by logging in to the learning portal . There are weekly support classes held live with guest lecturers and the scim team.

We have left week one very light in terms of content, only introducing navigation with a short assignment. This is because in week one you will need to register an account, download ableton, and get everything working. From week 2 the intensity is going to pick up dramatically so enjoy the first week and lets get into it..

2. Payment Plan Agreement: If you choose to utilize our payment plan for the purchase of the Ableton Live 12 License key, please be advised that timely payments are essential. In the event that a scheduled payment is missed, your license key will be temporarily deactivated until the outstanding payment is received.
