Kasango, born Kasmario Thulani Ike Fankis, is a celebrated South African DJ and music producer whose passion for music started at a young age. Hailing from the small town of Welkom in the Free State, Kasango discovered his love for house music at just 16 years old, inspired by South African house legends like Black Coffee and DJ Kent. His dedication to collecting records and honing his craft soon led him to immerse himself in the local music scene, attending events and studying the techniques of top DJs. In 2010, Kasango’s desire to further his knowledge brought him to the Soul Candi Institute of Music (SCIM), where he studied Advanced Music Production and Music Business. During his time at SCIM, he shared the classroom with some of today’s most prominent artists, including Cuebur and DJ Shimza. His journey has since taken him to international stages, with collaborations alongside big names like Euphonik, Cuebur, Vanco, and Idd Aziz, among others. Kasango’s breakout moment came in 2022 with the global hit Osama, a collaboration with Zakes Bantwini, which not only topped charts but achieved 4x platinum status. Now, as a seasoned touring artist, Kasango has come full circle, returning to SCIM to share his wealth of experience with the next generation. He teaches the Music Monetization and CMOS courses at our virtual campus, providing students with invaluable insights into both the technical and business aspects of the music industry.
