1. Acceptance of Terms
By enrolling in any course offered by SCIM, submitting a registration form, making payment (in full or in part), or accessing SCIM facilities, online platforms, learning materials, or software licenses, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions.
2. Registration & Commencement of Studies
2.1 A minimum upfront payment of R4,000 is required before a student may begin attending classes, accessing learning materials, or receiving software licenses.
2.2 Registration is only confirmed once:
- The required initial payment has cleared in SCIM’s bank account; and
- All required registration and debit order documentation (where applicable) has been completed and approved.
2.3 SCIM reserves the right to refuse or cancel a registration if documentation or payment requirements are not met.
3. Fees, Payment Plans & Discounts
3.1 Course fees are published on the SCIM website and/or official payment schedules and may vary per programme.
3.2 SCIM offers the following payment structures (where applicable):
- Upfront payment (qualifying for advertised discounts)
- Bi-annual payments
- Monthly debit orders via Netcash or approved payment gateways
3.3 Discounts apply only when payment terms are met in full and on time. Failure to honour a payment plan will result in discounts being revoked and fees reverting to the full, undiscounted amount.
3.4 All fees are quoted in South African Rand (ZAR) and are inclusive of VAT unless otherwise stated.
4. Debit Orders
4.1 Students selecting monthly payment options are required to complete a Netcash debit order mandate prior to the start of the semester.
4.2 Debit orders run on fixed monthly dates and may not be suspended, deferred, or cancelled without written approval from SCIM.
4.3 Failed or reversed debit orders may result in:
- Immediate suspension of access (see Clause 6)
- Administrative or bank penalty fees
5. Software Licenses & Learning Platforms
5.1 Software licenses (including but not limited to Ableton and other third-party tools) are issued separately from tuition fees.
5.2 Continued access to the following is strictly conditional upon accounts being up to date:
- Software licenses
- Learning Management Systems (LMS)
- Online content
- Physical classes and facilities
5.3 SCIM reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to suspend or revoke software licenses and access where fees are overdue.
6. Late Payments & Account Suspension
6.1 Accounts overdue by 30 days or more will be automatically suspended.
6.2 Suspension may include:
- Loss of access to classes (physical and online)
- Deactivation of software licenses
- Restriction from assessments or examinations
6.3 Reinstatement of access is subject to settlement of outstanding balances and confirmation from the SCIM accounts department.
7. Cancellation, Withdrawal & Early Termination
7.1 Students who choose to discontinue a course after commencement must provide written notice equal to the remaining months of the payment term.
7.2 Any fees paid for the current month are non-refundable.
7.3 Upon cancellation or termination:
- Student access, licenses, and LMS content may be paused or permanently revoked;
- Outstanding fees for the notice period remain payable.
7.4 No refunds will be issued for:
- Missed classes
- Software already issued
- Access already granted
8. Cooling-Off Period
8.1 In accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, students are entitled to a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of registration.
8.2 If cancellation occurs within this period:
- Any deposits or payments made will be forfeited;
- No further fees will be charged.
9. Course Changes & Academic Matters
9.1 SCIM reserves the right to:
- Modify course content, schedules, lecturers, or delivery methods;
- Postpone or cancel courses where minimum enrolment numbers are not met.
9.2 Where a course is cancelled by SCIM, affected students may be offered:
- An alternative course;
- A credit;
- A refund at SCIM’s discretion.
10. Student Conduct
10.1 Students are expected to behave professionally and respectfully towards staff, peers, and facilities.
10.2 SCIM reserves the right to suspend or expel students for misconduct, without refund, where behaviour is deemed disruptive, unlawful, or damaging.
11. Liability & Indemnity
11.1 SCIM shall not be liable for:
- Loss or damage to personal property;
- Indirect or consequential losses;
- Third-party software or service interruptions.
11.2 Students attend classes and facilities at their own risk and indemnify SCIM against any claims arising from participation, except where prohibited by law.
12. POPIA & Data Protection
12.1 SCIM processes personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
12.2 Student data is used for academic, administrative, and communication purposes only and will not be shared unlawfully with third parties.
13. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and South African courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
